  President Donald Trump has named federal appeals court judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court, a pivotal slot that could move the court in a more conservative direction for decades. A former attorney in President George W. Bush's administration, Kavanaugh has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit for the past 12 years. He also worked for independent counsel Kenneth Starr during the Whitewater investigation of President Bill Clinton.
