Catching up with Cohen

James Comey once famously proclaimed that he hoped there were tapes.

Well, Comey, this wasn't quite what you meant, but here we are.

Earlier this year, federal investigators seized 12 audio recordings from Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's lawyer. We don't know what is on those recordings, which are now in the hands of federal prosecutors.

But we do know that the revelation of these tapes comes just days after news broke that Cohen secretly recorded a conversation between himself and Trump, in which they discussed paying off a Playboy model Trump had an affair with. The conversation took place just a couple months before the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Iran ire

From our friends at the Short List: In a fiery back-and-forth  between Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and President Donald Trump, the two leaders threatened both the "mother of all wars" (Rouhani) and "consequences the likes of which few throughout history have suffered before" (Trump). The disgruntled remarks come as Washington prepares to reimpose economic sanctions on Iran after Trump in May withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 international nuclear accord with Iran, a move that drew Rouhani's ire.
