Too much booze can be deadly. But quitting alcohol can kill you, too.

  While deaths from alcohol in the United States are rising, doctors are warning alcoholics against trying to quit on their own. For those who suffer delirium tremens – the DTs – the death rate from alcohol withdrawal is as high as 4 percent. Hundreds of alcoholics trying to quit die each year.
