READ FULL SPEECH BELOW:

Thank you all.

We have been at historic Eagle Square for many hours such that day has turned into night and night back into day.

Because of your democratic exertion, this convention shall be recorded as a shining moment in the evolution of our party and the life of our nation.

I must thank you all for making me the standard bearer of our progressive party. And I humbly accept the nomination of this convention to be the presidential candidate of our enlightened, humanitarian and great party, the All Progressives Congress.

I also offer my sincere gratitude to President Buhari for his calm and prudent leadership throughout this process. I thank him, also, for his steadfast determination to ensure a level playing field and a free and fair primary process for every aspirant. Without him, I would not be standing here today as the new flagbearer of Nigeria's party.

I thank the governors for their invaluable contribution to internal democracy and unity.

I commend the party leadership and organizers for the conduct of a successful convention.

Thank you, the delegates, for the confidence you have shown in me. I will prove that your choice was a wise one. You have moved our party and country towards its best future. On your mandate I shall stand.

I commend my fellow aspirants. It is a difficult thing to run for president. The stiff and bold competition you offered made our party stronger and made me better. I must say a special word of thanks to the seven aspirants [Alhaji Badaru Abubakar; Sen.; Ibikunle Amosun; Sen. Ajayi Borrofice; Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole; Sen. Godswill Akpabio; Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and Barr.(Mrs.) Uju Kennedy] who chose to step down their personal ambitions for the good of the party and the unity of our purpose.

The competition is now over.

Those who did not support me, you have nothing to fear. I hold no grudges or grievances.

Let us each agree to join hands in defeating the PDP and beating back our common foes of poverty, terror and violence. We now have a date with destiny in February 2023. Let us win so Nigeria can become the nation it is intended to be.

To my campaign team and close advisors. Your dedication, long hours, and sound advice have brought me to this point.

I thank my beautiful wife, Oluremi, for her patience and wise counsel. Thank you for standing by my side. I am indeed a fortunate man.

Yes, we face serious problems. But I believe that we have it within us to reach our finest destiny. With help from God, we shall make this nation better for the generations to come.

President Muhamamdu Buhari has already laid a solid foundation in security, economy, and anti-corruption. We will build upon this for the salvation of our people.

So, I ask you:

Do we dare reform our national economy such that prosperity grows as poverty vanishes?

Yes, we dare.

Do we dare provide meaningful education and jobs for our youths so that they may strive for a better future?

Yes, we dare. Our teeming youth population is our nation's greatest asset. We will create jobs for our youth from the Zamfara and Osun gold deposits to the vast agricultural lands across the country. We will create new ooportunities in the FINTECH sector, the creative and entertainment industries, digital skills and other areas.

Do we dare feed our nation and provide the farmer a solid income for his toil?

Yes, we dare.

Do we dare construct a society where the vulnerable, the weak, the disadvantaged and the elderly are attended to and loved?

Yes, for we must care for those who cannot care for themselves.

Do we dare muster our collective strength to conquer terrorism, kidnapping, and violent evil of any form?

Yes, we dare.

After the PDP convention, I commended Abubakar Atiku. The ensuing contest between our party and his will be one of competing visions.

Our vision is of progress and the future that can be. We must defeat the PDP's reactionary ideals.

Our better, more progressive vision of Nigeria shall secure a better society for all Nigerians.

May this be our task arising from this convention. Let nothing stand in the way of our achieving a more just society and a greater Nigeria.

God bless the APC.

God bless Nigeria.

Drama in Labour party, trouble for Peter Obi as another presidential candidate emerges

Posted: 08 Jun 2022 01:33 PM PDT

Political quargmire in the Labour Party, LP took another dimension yesterday  as its acting national chairman,  Calistus Uju Okafor yesterday announced ambassador  Jude Ezenwafor as the Presidential candidate for the party ahead of 2023 Presidential election.

Okafor who announced Okafor as the candidate to fly the flag of the party next year at the Excel Hotel and Resort, Garki 2, Abuja, described the candidate as "a man of integrity."

Ezenwafor, former Anambra State Chairman of LP emerged through what Okafor described as affirmation  during the party's primary, with members drawn from across the country.

Speaking on the Presidential candidate, Okafor said, "Having made all the requirements of the party, we hereby affirm you to be the presidential candidate of the Labour Party come 2023."

The LP Acting National Chairman who noted that he was not fighting the former Anambra State Governor and the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi whom the other faction of LP had presented as its presidential candidate, said "I am not against you. My doors are open.

"I am fighting for what is my right. I am not fighting my brother. Those who think I'm being used should have a rethink."

Speaking with Journalists  after his emergence, Ezenwafor disclosed that  he was on "a rescue mission."

According to Ezenwafor who was Senior Special Assistant to former Governor  Willie Obiano said that  with the level of insecurity in the country, "Nigeria needs to be rescued. Labour is leading a revolutionary course, Labour party will win the general election.

"Our party is going to take over Nigeria and bring back the glory Nigeria needs.

"I have been in the corridors of government for the past 20 years. We are here on a rescue mission," he said.

Ezenwafor who worked with former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju; former Governor Chris Ngige, also served under former Gov. Peter Obi for four months.

Speaking further,  Okafor said that  his position and actions were based on the need to ensure justice, fairness and equity stressing that he had nothing against the person of former governor Peter Obi.

Okafor, who insisted that he remained the acting national chairman of the LP following the sacking of its late chairman, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, also clarified that there was no agreement yet between him and a former presidential Spokesperson, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

He said no meaningful discussion had taken place between him and Okupe, who is now the campaign manager for Obi, adding, "On Doyin Okupe, it is unfortunate that people takes someone else for granted. I wonder why people wants to use others for their selfish interest.

"I am fighting for Justice. There's no where in any political party that an acting national secretary can take over the national chairmanship position. We have the deputy vice-chairman and the zonal vice Chairmen.

"There is no where in the constitution that says an acting national secretary could take over the leadership of a political party when the deputy national chairman and zonal vice chairmen. I am not witch-hunting Peter Obi.

"When Okupe called me, I told him that I was open for discussion. I was now surprised when he went to the media and said a different thing from what I told him.

"It is clear that he wanted to take me for granted. The leadership of the other faction is going about that I'm looking for recognition. It is an insult to me as a person.

"They should know that their leader is an acting national secretary while, I Calistus Uju Okafor is the acting national chairman. The court will soon remove them. I am very open to any discussion for the right thing to be done.

"The leader of the other faction should remain as the acting national secretary while I play my role as the acting national chairman. Every other positions in the Labour Party remain the same until we all obey the consent judgement that says an all inclusive and expansive convention be held."

PDP mocks Tinubu - "You only want to steal Nigeria's money like you did in Lagos state"

Posted: 08 Jun 2022 01:38 PM PDT

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has mocked Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for clinching at very great price, the Presidential ticket of the moribund, decrepit and crippled All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party said the APC has  since served out its purpose as "a fraudulent contraption that brought in the failed, corrupt and rudderless administration of President Muhammadu Buhari."

This was contained in a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja, on Wednesday.

He said, "Our Party also sympathizes with Asiwaju for embarking on a journey to nowhere as he is no match for PDP's more popular, more competent and more prepared Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar the unifier and the people's choice, who defeated President Buhari fair and square in the 2019 Presidential election.

"Asiwaju will soon realize that Nigeria is not one of his acquired estates or fiefdoms and that the Nigerian people are not his political string-puppets and retinue of lackies, from whom he bought the APC Presidential ticket.

"Asiwaju will also soon realize that Nigerians hold him responsible for his self-confessed role in installing the failed Buhari-led administration that subjugated the people, brought excruciating economic hardship, acute poverty, bloodletting, terrorism, mass killings, promoted disunity, tribalism and nepotism, lawlessness, massive treasury looting and unpardonable life-discounting experiences to our country."

Ologunagba noted that It is indeed reprehensible that Asiwaju, after being handed an APC flag that refused to unfold in recognition of the gloomy times of the APC, did not demonstrate any form of remorse for the injuries he engineered and caused our nation in the last seven years.

The party spokesman stressed that his failure to express empathy for the victims of violence, kidnapping, mass killings and acts of terrorism, especially the recent gruesome attack in a sacred place of worship, St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Ondo State,  serves as a foretaste of the big cover up and harrowing experience that Nigerians will face, God forbid, should Asiwaju emerge as President in 2023.

The PDP statement further read, "His acceptance speech further exposed his manifest lack of capacity, presence of mind, resourcefulness and selflessness to manage the affairs of a nation as complex as Nigeria.

"From Asiwaju's egotistic outbursts before and after the APC manipulative National Convention, it is crystal clear that his life-long dream of clinching the APC Presidential ticket is not for the wellbeing of Nigerians but out of desperation to lay hands on the keys to the nation's treasury.

"Asiwaju has insulted the sensibilities of Nigerians enough and this APC National Convention will be his final political outing.

" This is because Nigerians have had enough and are now, more than ever before, ready and out on the platform of the PDP to defend our nation and reject Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the 2023 Presidential election.

"The Nigerian politics is far more complex and beyond the Lagos politics where Asiwaju operates with brawl and deployment of violence rather than brain.

"What Nigerians needs now is a unifier in the face of the pain and discomfort inflicted on them by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his live band of APC looters and mean human beings. He needs to know that Nigeria is not Lagos."

The PDP  charged Nigerians to continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whom the party described as their choice President in this mission to Rescue, Redirect and Rebuild our nation from the misrule of Asiwaju and his APC.

2023: Tinubu, APC will win presidential election – Gbajabiamila

Posted: 08 Jun 2022 12:17 PM PDT

The House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, has congratulated Bola Tinubu.

The former Lagos State Governor clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket on Wednesday.

In a statement, the lawmaker said he was elated that his political mentor won the APC primary.

He described the victory as well-deserved, considering Tinubu's "years of working for the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria".

Gbajabiamila said the APC stood a good chance of retaining power in 2023.

The Speaker described Tinubu as a dogged fighter who stood his ground to compete the primary in a democratic manner.

"I congratulate my mentor for this victory. This is a victory for democracy and Nigerians as a whole.

"He stood his ground that the APC must organise a free, fair and transparent presidential primary if it wanted to remain the party to beat."

Gbajabiamila hailed the APC leader for his doggedness, determination, resilience and tenacity.

"This is a victory for APC, a victory for its members and indeed a victory for Nigeria and its democracy," he added.

2023: Afenifere reacts as Tinubu wins APC presidential candidate

Posted: 08 Jun 2022 12:11 PM PDT

The Pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has reacted to the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Afenifere said the emergence of Tinubu, who comes from the Southern part of the country, was delightful.

Speaking to newsmen, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, said: "It is a known fact that the Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum, of which Afenifere is a key member, has been in the forefront of those advocating that power must shift to the southern part of Nigeria come 2023.

"For power to move to the South, there must be a Southern candidate or candidates. That was why we were strident in our calls on the political parties to field Southern candidates in the forthcoming Presidential election. By electing former Lagos State Governor, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to fly its flag, the All Progressives Congress has met that minimum condition of fielding a Southern candidate."

Ajayi also noted that a return to true federalism through the restructuring of the country has been an article of faith for Afenifere for a long time.

"It is our hope, indeed our demand, that the next President must get the country Restructured immediately on assumption of office if the present administration under retired General Muhammadu Buhari failed to do so before leaving office.

"Not only that, the next administration owes us the duty of ensuring that the country is not only safe for everybody, the operational system must be such that no section or group would be in a position to dominate the other.

In summing up, the emergence of a person of Southern extraction is highly welcomed. It is our hope that this will translate into power shifting to the South come 2023."

He went further to say that the suffocating insecurity situation in the country must be tamed immediately, adding that among other things, allow for the establishment of State Police right now.

"As well as putting a stop to the kid glove manner with which bandits and terrorists are being treated by the federal government today," he added.

Breakthrough for cancer treatment as US drug trial records ‘100% success’

Posted: 08 Jun 2022 10:28 AM PDT

A United States (US) drug trial involving cancer patients has reportedly recorded 100 percent success.

The patients had rectal cancer, a type of cancer that begins in the rectum, which is the lower end of the large intestine.

According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the trial consisted of 12 patients, all of whom entered remission after taking "dostarlimab" over a six-month period.

Dostarlimab is an immunotherapy drug used in the treatment of endometrial cancer. It works by unmasking cancer cells, allowing the immune system to identify and destroy them.

This clinical trial sought to know whether it could be effective against rectal cancer tumours.

The researchers said the 12 patients received dostarlimab every three weeks for six months and the treatment was to be followed by standard chemoradiotherapy and surgery.

They, however, said six months after the patients stopped taking the medication, they recorded significant improvement.

"A total of 12 patients have completed treatment with dostarlimab and have undergone at least 6 months of follow-up. All 12 patients (100%; 95% confidence interval, 74 to 100) had a clinical complete response, with no evidence of tumor on magnetic resonance imaging, F-fluorodeoxyglucose–positron-emission tomography, endoscopic evaluation, digital rectal examination, or biopsy," the researchers said.

"At the time of this report, no patients had received chemoradiotherapy or undergone surgery, and no cases of progression or recurrence had been reported during follow-up (range, 6 to 25 months). No adverse events of grade 3 or higher have been reported."

The scientists, however, noted that "longer follow-up is needed to assess the duration of response" and therefore cautioned against concluding that the cancer had been eradicated permanently.

Luis Diaz, one of the lead authors of the paper, said he did not know of any other study in which a treatment completely got rid of cancer in every patient.

"This is the first time this has happened in the history of cancer," he said.

Dear Asiwaju,

FELICITATIONS

The Presidential Primary of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the 2023 General Election has come and gone.

I am elated and proud that the Presidential primary was manifestly free and fair, and conducted within our APC Family under a most convivial atmosphere.

The success of the event again demonstrates the capacity of our great party to run its internal affairs smoothly and devoid of rancour.

As Your Excellency is aware, I offered myself alongside your good self and other patriotic members of the party to fly its highly coveted flag in the 2023 presidential election.

I did so in the belief that I have the knowledge base, ideas, experience and desire to provide leadership for our dear country at these most trying times.

However, the outcome of the election process has shown that Your Excellency is the popular choice of our party for that assignment.

I do not have an iota of doubt in the wisdom of that decision by our Party's delegates from across the country.

Your glittering track record of public service, foresight and grit in party building and administration, as well as the courage you continue to demonstrate in fighting for the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria make you worthy of the high esteem and trust of our party members everywhere in Nigeria as exhibited at the National Convention.

It is on this note that I heartily congratulate you on your well-deserved victory at the primary.

I have no doubt that with your credentials, experience, antecedents and political sagacity, our great party will go into the 2023 contest confident of victory.

As a loyal party member, I remain committed to the party at all times and will always be available to work for its success.

Once again, I congratulate Your Excellency on your well-deserved nomination as the standard bearer of our party and, insha Allah, next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

AFCON: Super Eagles can win in 2023 — Peseiro

Posted: 08 Jun 2022 08:32 AM PDT

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has reiterated his desire to help the Super Eagles win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles last won the AFCON title in 2013 in South Africa.

The team failed to qualify for the 2015 and 2019 editions but claimed the third position on their return in Egypt in 2019.

The Eagles were eliminated in the Round of 16 early this year in Cameroon.

Peseiro is, however, confident he can help restore the team's lost glory.
